Jones County

Jones County, North Carolina has a long and storied history dating back to an Act of incorporation 1833. Just over 100 years later in the 1930s, Jones County began to implement soil and water conservation practices in reaction to the boll weevil crisis that had been ravaging the local agricultural population. More recently, the county underwent its most significant change yet when it became the first predominantly white county in North Carolina to vote for a Black president during Barack Obama's 2008 campaign. Today, Jones County is still a rural county with a few small towns dotted throughout its wooded landscape. Despite its decline in population size (now around 10,000), Jones County continues to be home to some agricultural land and numerous historical sites that tell stories of days gone by--from old train stations to antebellum homes. With so much history behind it, there's no doubt that this small county has left and will continue to leave an indelible mark on the state of North Carolina!
